About Crafted Academy

Hi, I'm Johnny and...

Welcome to Crafted Academy!

 

Believe it or not, I started right where you are, as a complete noob, over 10 years ago, knowing next to nothing about building stuff.

I grew up around a little woodworking (my dad had a small shop in our basement) but I was more of a tech nerd. Honestly, I couldn't care less about building, unless you count rickety backyard skateboard and bike ramps.

That all changed in 2015, when my wife and I moved into our first house, complete with a big garage and next to no furniture. After getting a major case of stick shock from shopping for furniture, I decided I could figure this out and build what we needed for way cheaper. That's what we all say, right?

I don't think I saved any money, but I did find a hobby that became a complete obsession. My friends and family didn't care much about those amazing websites I'd designed, but, as soon as I started building dining tables, I was surprised by how impressed they were.

I took my hobby full time shortly thereafter, building custom furniture for clients and making YouTube videos as Crafted Workshop, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Why Crafted Academy?

 

I've helped millions of people learn woodworking with my YouTube videos, but I've always want to go deeper, rather than cutting my videos short to appease the YouTube algorithm. I love teaching and seeing people inspired by my videos is one of my favorite parts of my job.

With Crafted Academy, I'm hoping to become less reliant on YouTube and sponsor deals to pay my bills. I want to be able to build what I'm passionate about, instead of letting my analytics tell me what to do. Where's the fun in that, right? 

I've been working on our first course, Jumpstart Your Woodworking, for the past few months and I'm really proud of the course I've put together. I hope you get as much out of Jumpstart as I've put into it, and I can't wait to make more courses for Crafted Academy.

I want to build a community of woodworkers and makers who are excited to learn and keep pushing their skills to the next level.
